Odd Burr III-Chen Distribution: Properties and Estimation Based on Progressive Type-II Censoring Scheme

Abstract

In recent years, composite models based on Burr III distribution have become increasingly prevalent in environmental studies, economics, meteorology, water resources, and forestry applications. This distribution has also proven valuable for analyzing wages, income, and wealth datasets. The odd Burr III family is particularly attractive because it contains numerous well-known distributions and incorporates properties of exponential and logistic distributions. In this paper, the odd Burr III-Chen distribution is introduced and developed as a novel composite distribution. Some properties of the proposed distribution are studied. The maximum likelihood estimation method based on a progressive Type-II censoring scheme is used to estimate the model parameters, reliability and hazard rate functions. A simulation study validates the precision of the maximum likelihood estimates and application to real dataset to demonstrate how the results can be used in practice.
